You can adopt practical measures to reduce the chances of spreading or catching COVID-19 too. Below are precautions, with inputs from the WHO:
Wash your hands with soap and water or clean them with an alcohol-based hand rub to kill viruses. You should do so thoroughly and regularly, and in case of a hand sanitizer ensure that it has at least 60% alcohol.
Stay at least 1 meter away from anyone who is coughing or sneezing to avoid inhaling droplets that may contain the virus.
Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes as COVID-19 can spread through infected surfaces and objects. If your hands get contaminated, there is a chance of the virus entering your body through your nose, mouth, or eyes.
Practice good respiratory hygiene and encourage those around you to do the same to avoid person-to-person transmission. This involves covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing/coughing or doing so into your bent elbow.
Remain at home if you show symptoms of COVID-19, that is, if you have a cough, fever or difficulty in breathing. This will help curb the spreading of the disease.
Know about regions where COVID-19 has made an appearance and keep abreast of where the outbreak is severe. Try to avoid these places, especially if you have an underlying sickness or are old.
